Orthodontics

What does orthodontics involve?

Orthodontics is the specialty in dentistry concerned with the diagnosis and correction of malpositioned teeth. Orthodontists focus on correcting alignment issues of the teeth and jaw to promote optimal oral health.

Orthodontic treatments can also address cosmetic concerns, either directly or indirectly. Patients may see an orthodontist for bite alignment issues, or to improve the appearance of already functional teeth.

How does orthodontics work?

Orthodontic treatment helps properly align your teeth through the use of devices that apply constant force and pressure against your teeth. Orthodontic appliances, like braces, pull and push your teeth into more proper positions.

This process must be undertaken very slowly, which is why orthodontics must often be worn for an extended period to achieve satisfactory results.

What orthodontic treatments are available?

Idea Dental offers classic metal braces for various malpositioning issues. They also provide treatment with Invisalign for patients who wish to resolve their orthodontic treatments discreetly.

Dr. Ngo uses the iTero 3D Element Scanner to create extremely accurate digital images of your teeth, which serve as the ideal foundation for the construction of your Invisalign clear aligners.

After treatment with braces is finished, the team will evaluate your results through dental molds and x-rays. They may order you a retainer, which prevents your teeth from shifting back without your braces.

You’ll likely wear your retainer full time for a few months, but will eventually only need to wear it at night. This will keep your teeth in place and ensure you feel your best.
